ADMIN MATTERS

1. 3 Goodness still needs another parent volunteer to look after our class boys during the Lower Primary Sports day this Thursday from 7.15 till 10 a.m. All the lower primary teachers are deployed as game masters on that day. For now, we only have Mrs Lim (Xuan Wei's mummy) to help out on that day. Please email or message me at 91096310 if you are free to help out. Thank you in advance! :)

2. 8 boys were given the parents survey form from the school. Please fill them in and submit it on 1 October. There will not be any OAS given though the survey form stated so. 



ENGLISH

1. The boys did their WP12 compo on 'a place in Singapore or overseas that you visited with your family'. Most of the boys got carried away talking about the activities that they did when they went overseas for a holiday. They must have been confused/ unsure due to the word 'overseas' and rattle on about their trip. Although most of them were good compos, they did not really manage to bring out the main topic which was to write about only one place. Some of them talked about a few places instead. I would accept those who talk about one place for example Osaka, and they then go on to talk about whatever activities they have done in Osaka. However, I will not really accept if they talk about Osaka, Tokyo and many other places. I have not completed marking all the compos but I hope that once I return them, they will realise their mistakes and try to write a better piece.

Below is a documentary on what are the different things that people can do in Bangkok. Something which the boys can think about. :)

2. Today's spelling will be the last one for the year. Hopefully they can revise the words, understand the meanings and apply some of them in their writings.

ENGLISH

1. Sign Learning Sheet 15.

2. File in Learning Sheet 15, Basic Practice 4, 5 and 6. I will start collecting the files some time in October for checking. 

3. Oral - the teachers are not supposed to release the oral results till further notice. The only feedback that I can give is that generally the boys did alright. Their voices are loud enough. However, some of them were not really able to answer some of the stimulus-based questions but once I have taken into account all the answers for the other questions, their marks are not too bad. There were also a handful who did not want to explain their answers and were just satisfied with one sentence. 

4. The most recent compo that they did were not very well done. It was quite a simple topic on a 'party that you organised or attended'. Most of them only wrote 1.5 pages. Hence, most of their compos have loopholes in it. I have been encouraging them to write longer than that so that they are 'forced' to elaborate on each event/activity. I told them previously that it would be good if they can write about 3 to 4 pages. The following link can help them think about possible ideas for parties in the future. :)

ADMIN MATTERS

1. The pupils were given the letter on the CHS Pri Yearbook Chapter 20:14. If the boys are interested to purchase the yearbook, please fill in the form and pass $12 in an envelope to them. They are to hand in both latest by Monday, 29th September.

2. There will be a change in the recess timings during the PSLE period as shown in the picture below. Please ask the boys to bring food from home for the 15-mins break from 12.30 to 12.45 pm as they will be hungry. The timetable will be pasted in the classroom.

ADMIN MATTERS

The boys were given the end of year examination timetable 2014 a few weeks ago. In that letter, I told the boys to highlight the important dates and even the sentence regarding the uniform to be worn during the days of the examination. The SNAPP message this morning was just a reminder regarding this matter as most of the boys came with their PE attire instead of the uniform. Thank you.

ENGLISH AND ADMIN MATTERS

The following picture shows what the students had to write in their homework diary yesterday.

For point number 2, the boys were told to revise their Speak Well booklet and also the Oral and Listening Booklet. 

Please take note on point number 3. The boys will be asked to bring home their report books today as the school is issuing new result slips for them. There was a discrepancy in their result slip. If you would have noticed, the title of the slip was written as AMODES 3. It should have been AMODES 2. Please get the boys to return the report books on Monday, 22/09/14.

Some boys were asked to do the Philosophy for Children as homework yesterday as I wanted them to have more time to reflect on the topic of lies. The rest of the class will have to do it in class today.  

Before Monday, probably you would like to show the boys this video to calm their nerves before the Oral Exam. :)

ENGLISH

As of this term, I will ask the boys to write simple apology letters (with parent's signatures) to me if they cannot submit their homework on the day that they are supposed to [unless they are absent on the day]. I will give them a day's grace for weekday homework but not for those with long weekends. The term is very short so I hope that the boys will cooperate with me in completing their work on time. :)

Yesterday, both Mdm Zhang and I could not update the class blog due to a change in the password and we had to check with Mdm Mayah who is still on leave.

For tomorrow, I have told the boys to get ready their foolscap papers on the table as we will be doing composition during the lesson. I will also be collecting the boys' Learning Sheet 14 - corrections to be done and parents' signature is required. 

Just a gentle reminder, there will be PSLE listening comprehension this Friday and the boys do not need to come to school on that day. 

Lastly, for term 4, school ties are to be worn every Thursday. 

Let's welcome the boys back to school and motivate them to study hard for the next 4 weeks before their Semestral Assessment 2. :) 

3 SEPTEMBER 2014

ENGLISH

 1. The boys were given the letter on the End Of Year Examination Timetable 2014. Please ensure that the boys come for all the examinations. An MC is required for any absence from examinations. No parents letter will be accepted. Please adhere to the school rule which is to wear the school uniform tidily during the days of examinations. 

2. I have returned their COMPO Amodes for the boys to do their corrections and for parents signature. Return the compos to me when school reopens on the 15th September 2014. Based on the feedback by the EL Subject head, I have marked their compos very strictly. Hence, by right, they should be getting one or two more marks for their total. However, parents, please do not tell them this. I want them to really put in the extra effort in writing a good compo. They are now producing better compos than previous ones. 

3. The boys were given the VIA card. Do encourage them to participate actively. We are trying to inculcate the good values in them.

4. I have given rewards to the best compiled Compo files and 10 others whose files are neatly organised. Although I have promised the best file a voucher, I was not able to buy the vouchers from the shop. Hence, I bought rewards equivalent to the voucher amount that I wanted to purchase.

5. Sign Learning Sheet 12 and 13. Do corrections for LS 13 and hand in on 15/09/14. 

6. My 5 remedial boys plus 2 boys were given extra papers for practice during the September holidays. Parents, please sign the slip of paper attached to their question papers. 

Lastly, September holidays are round the corner. Let them finish their homework this week so that they can enjoy their one week of holiday before we push them in the last lap for this year. So have fun and be happy! :D
