ENGLISH

The teachers have finished marking all the different components of the English papers. However, the results will only be out next week.

Some feedback on the EL examination...

Compo
The topic was on 'a time when you or your family member fell sick'.
Some of the boys still wrote in 3rd person instead of in 1st person although I have reminded them right before the exam. This caused them their marks. They will minus 2 marks for using 3rd person and minus 1 mark for not using either one of the 3 pictures. They were also penalised if they wrote about their friends instead.
Some of the boys really put in a lot of effort by writing more than 2 pages. Although some of them scored well for writing more than two pages, some of them simply repeated whatever they have written in other paragraphs just to make up for those extra pages. This really affected their content and language marks.

Main paper
For Booklet A, there was one question which caused most boys to lose one mark. The question was on 'Who's' and 'Whose'. Most boys got this question wrong. They were not able to differentiate between Who's = Who is and Whose.

For Booklet B, on grammar, some boys were tricked by the word sometimes: "jellyfish sometimes stings". Some of them chose sting as they were tricked by it.
For the open-ended question, some boys lost the marks on the answer that required them to spell it in plural form. The question required them to answer - a few posters/flyers/pamphlets/notices. However, some of them did not add in the letter 's' and they got zero for that question.
For the basic comprehension, most boys lost half mark for wrong spelling of the word 'Antarctica' which can be found in the passage itself. For the open-ended comprehension, some boys wasted their the 4-word phrase question marks by copying the phrase wrongly. Most spelt the word 'searched' wrongly and they got zero as there is no partial mark for this question. However, if they wrote in one whole sentence, we will deduct marks for wrong punctuation. The last question was slightly tricky and most boys could not get the answer.

These are some of my comments for the papers. I will be going through the papers with them either tomorrow or next week after the level teachers are given the clearance to do so.

Thank you parents for your support and guidance throughout this exam. Hopefully our boys will continue to work hard for their future. :)

Thank you! :D

"We Love SG Flowers"

The school has planned "We Love SG Flowers" making sessions as part of the Post Examination Activities for P3 boys. This is in line with our participation for next year's Chingay 2015.

Mdm Zhang and I need the help of Parent Volunteers from our class for the allocated sessions so that there will be more than one adult facilitation (subject teacher) during these sessions.

Do have a look at the following instructional video prior to the allocated sessions so that you can facilitate the flower making sessions together with the teacher who will be in class.

The sessions will be as follows:

7 November
7.45 to 10.15 a.m.
10.45 to 13.45 p.m.

10 November
7.45 to 9.15 a.m.
12.15 to 13.45 p.m.

11 November
12.15 to 13.45 p.m.

12 November
10.45 to 13.45 p.m.

13 November
7.45 to 10.15 a.m.
10.45 to 13.45 p.m.

Do inform me or Mdm Zhang if you would like to come for any of the days and during which session. We understand if you will not be able to stay for the whole session. :)

We are contactable through email at syazwani_samsudin@moe.edu.sg or zhang_shuying or you can message me at 91096310.

For parents who are not able to come down to help out in school, do contribute the plastic flowers or just the plastic bags by asking the boys to bring it to school for you once they are done.
As a school, Catholic High will definitely be able to reach the target of 40,000 "We Love SG Flowers" by the end of this year. :)

The school would like to thank you in advance for your strong support for this Community Engagement Programme.

Thank you parents! We really appreciate your help! :D

ADMIN MATTERS

Please be reminded that the boys are supposed to wear their full school uniform from tomorrow till Friday. The examination committee was not pleased last Friday as some of the boys turned up in their PE attire or the family day shirt.

The boys did a trial paper today. We've gone through it in class. They will receive their papers by tomorrow with the marks on it. The trial paper is based on the old English Paper format. There are some differences as compared to the previous trial paper.

They also received their Grammar Close which is the optional booklet to be filed into the EL file.

This Friday, the boys will have their first examination paper. Please be reminded that they are to be in their full school uniform without the tie except for Thursday. Please help them in their revision for the exams. Just by sitting beside them, even if we are doing our own work, will help them feel our presence and support. :)

On another note, i can't remember if I've shared this video before but I just want to remind everyone, including myself, that each one of us is awesome and we can make the world a better place. :D

Last Friday, we did the Grammar CLoze (optional worksheet) in class. After we had completed the worksheet, the boys were instructed to draw at the last page of the booklet. The best drawing came from Zachary Tay.

Sorry for the poor video quality on YouTube. :)

Since the boys were restless during the last few minutes during the last period today, I made them read their storybooks. I told them to write on a piece of foolscap paper what they have read during the period as homework. They can either summarise the story or copy the paragraphs. I believe that this may also help in their writing other than simply asking them to remain silent without doing anything while waiting for the bell.

Please do not worry as our class has completed the syllabus and I just need to return them their WP12 corrections and the trial papers which they have done in class. I have been giving them extra papers as practice too.

Please help to ensure that their EL files are in order to facilitate their revision for the upcoming exams.

Thank you parents! :)

I will upload their Children's Day video hopefully soon. :D

Have a nice day!
