ENGLISH

Just for today:

1) Do Spelling corrections and sign by 31/07/14.

2) Do corrections for WP8 by 01/08. Similar to WP7, some boys were still not familiar with the format of writing compositions in first person. Some of the boys also focussed too much on the pictures instead of the main question which was on the most memorable present


AMODES
From the boys' answers for their AMODES test today, I've gathered that although I had reminded them to check for s/p/g [spelling/punctuation/grammar] for their comprehension questions, some of them still did not check every single detail in their answers. Hence, most of the boys did not manage to score especially for the question that asked for the sentence from the passage as they either forgot to write one word or they did not write 'Disney' with a capital D. Since it is a lifting question, any word missing or any punctuation error, they will be given zero. This is the section that 'killed' most of the boys. 

Dear parents, please help to remind the boys the importance of checking their work thoroughly.

The test papers will only be given out once the other classes have completed them and there's clearance from the level teachers.

Attached below is the video showing boys parading in their ethnic costumes. Only 3 boys from 3 Goodness turned up in their ethnic costume. I hope that the boys will put in more effort to participate in wearing their ethnic clothes next year. :)


On another note, I have informed the boys that for this term and next term, I won't be using the Little Red Dot during class time. However, they are highly encouraged to do any page from the newspaper and hand it in to me. I will mark it and return it to them personally. :)

Yesterday, the boys did their Writing Practice 8 in class. As I went round while they were writing the composition, I realised that some of them did not answer the question well. The question was about 'the most memorable present you have received'. Some either focussed more on writing about the birthday celebration/party they had instead of the present itself. Some did not write in first person. I hope that if the boys were to practise writing compositions at home, they will write about themselves instead of imaginary characters. This is because for term 3 and 4, all the composition will be about personal experiences. Even if they have never had that kind of experience, they need to make up a story and write it in first person. I will also remind the boys again in class today.

ENGLISH

1. Sign Learning Sheet 10, file it into EL file and study LS10.1 and LS 10.2 for next week's test on Wednesday (30/07). I've just got confirmation that it will be on Wednesday so I have not informed the boys the exact day of the test. I will inform them tomorrow.

2. Study for Spelling next Tuesday. (29/07)

3. I've put up a folder at the noticeboard at the back of the classroom for the boys to express their concerns or anything at all just for me to read and reflect. In this way, I hope that the boys can come forward and tell me how I can help them, either just for English or any other things that is within my capacity. Parents, please encourage your sons to write. It is up to them how long they want to write. I will not read them aloud to the class. I told them that they are not supposed to take out anything from my folder but they can only put their letters in it. If they don't feel secure, they can also pass me the letters directly. Thank you in advance parents. :)

Ms Victor has returned the EL files to the boys. Some of the composition files are still with her. 

The following are the instructions for the boys:
1) Keep Term 1 and Term 2 EL worksheets at home.
2) Keep Term 1 and Term 2 compos at home. 
*Do not throw them away.*
3) Leave the content pages for both files in the files. 
4) Put in Learning Sheet 9 into the EL file. 
5) Bring both files tomorrow, 22/07.

ENGLISH

The boys were given learning sheets homework yesterday. I am trying to complete the whole learning sheet fast so that I can return it to them to study for AMODES in Week 5. The most important learning sheets that they need to study for Language AMODES on Wednesday (30/07) will be LS 9.1, LS 10.1 and LS 10.2

I will remind them again next week.

Today's homework will be from the Pupil Workbook 3 Part 2 - pages 1 to 6. They are to bring it back on Monday(21/07)

On another note, it will be Racial Harmony Day next Monday. The boys are allowed to wear only ethnic costumes and not their normal shirts and jeans.

1. Do Spelling corrections and sign by 17/07.

2. Sign Learning Sheet Unit 9 by 17/07.
- The additional notes on the last page is not compulsory but the boys are highly encouraged to complete it. 

3. Complete Learning Sheet Unit 10 - LS 10.1, LS 10.3, Worksheet 1 and Worksheet 2.

4. Hand in WP6 corrections to Ms Victor on 17/07. 

There will be AMODES in Week 5 (29/07 - 31/07). I will inform the boys what they need to learn soon. 

Let's hope that this won't happen. :P

1. Complete Writing Matters for WP7 by 16/07.

2. Do WP7 Corrections by 16/07. The boys have to rewrite their whole composition on a fresh sheet of foolscap paper. They have to answer the questions that I asked to close up the gaps in the story or edit any grammatical errors spotted. 

3. Spelling on 15/07.

On another note, please be informed that 10 boys did not bring their Speak Well booklet today although they have written it in their homework diary next week. :(

Please help to ensure that the boys bring the necessary learning materials for the day.

Since this week is a short week due to the Youth Day Holiday and the learning journeys this Thursday and Friday, the boys will be missing quite a number of periods. 

1) I need the students to complete their Learning Sheet 9.5, 9.7 and 9.8 by tomorrow 9 July. I will go through with them tomorrow. I may also start on their i-Compre 10 tomorrow. 

2) Over the next few days till next Monday (14/07), I will need the students to prepare their answers for the Speak Well booklet page 20 - 21

3) They will also need to study for their Spelling on Tuesday (15/07).

ENGLISH WRITING PRACTICE 7

Homework: Write a composition based on the question given - a time when you or your classmate was injured in school or at home.

The boys were guided on how to do it during lesson yesterday. However, since this composition question format is new to them, they may still feel slightly lost. There are three pictures on the question and the boys only need to choose one or two of the pictures and incorporate them into their stories. 

I have also reminded them that from now till the end of the year, all the writing practice, AMODES and examinations will be this format. They were also told to write in the first person. 

They are to plan their writing using the 7 steps on page 52 and 53 of their writing matters and write out their composition on the foolscap paper. They are then supposed to staple the question paper behind their foolscap paper.

1) Some of the boys need to submit their Spelling books tomorrow as they had either forgotten to sign them or do their corrections. 
Dear parents, please help to ensure that they complete their work on time. Thank you. :)

2) The boys did their oral practice from the Speak Well booklet in their foolscap paper today. They are to staple that to their Speak Well booklet. They are highly encouraged to practice SBC Six pg 19, question c, at home before the next oral revision practice. 

3) The boys need to submit their SPUR booklets tomorrow. They are reminded to complete only one activity from the booklet.

ENGLISH - 2 JULY

Good day everyone! :)

I am Mdm Syaz and I am taking over from Ms Victor as of this term till the end of the year. I hope that we can work well together in helping the boys excel in English. I will be updating this blog frequently. I will post the homework that needs to be done for the day and also any work that needs to be signed by the parents. The boys will also need to write down whatever homework that they have in their homework diary. I will need your help to sign their homework diary daily. 

The boys were assigned Learning Sheet 9.2 as homework yesterday. 

For today, they will be bringing home their Spelling books for parent's signature. Please help to ensure that they bring back the Spelling books tomorrow(3 July) for checking
