29 August

ENGLISH

I have completed marking the boys' compo AMODES a few days ago. Generally the boys did alright. Some boys still did not want to plan their compo well resulting in them not answering the question to the point. The question was on 'the day I received my report book'. Some of their compos wrote about the examinations prior to receiving the report book. The part about the report book was only written at the conclusion. It should have been the main gist of the whole story. There were two boys who wrote in the third person although I had reminded them to write in the first person, even on the AMODES day itself. Please help to remind the boys the importance of writing their compos in the first person. 

For now, I still cannot reveal the marks to them as I have not gain the approval to release them. Thank you for your understanding. :)

ADMIN MATTERS

1) The letter for the Teachers' Day Celebration will be given out today.]


2) Recently, the boys have been playing with papers in school. They will make it into guns or even into swords. I have told them that they can only play it during recess or the breaks but not during lessons. I have also informed them that once the papers are confiscated, it will not be returned to them. Please advice your sons not to do so. Thank you. :)

1. Learning Sheet 12 homework - pages 14, 15, 16 and 17 by Monday, 25th August.

2. Compo AMODES - after taking a peek at their compos, one of the boys did not write his compo in first person (I). For those compos that are written out of focus or out of point, we will reduce the content mark by one band down. For instance, if he should get 7-8 marks for his content, but since it is out of focus, his marks will be reduced to 5-6 out of 10. Please help to remind the boys that for these two terms, it is really important that they write their compos in first person.

ENGLISH + AOB

1) I am officially taking over as 3 Goodness' form teacher as of today. Please update me anything regarding your child to me (for example, MCs, doctor's letter, parent's letter etc). Any other information will be disseminated by me or Zhang Laoshi. 

2) The school has given out a letter by the Police/LTA regarding the traffic along Bishan Street 24. 

3) I have compiled some good phrases or ideas for the Speak Well Booklet pages 23 and 24. The boys are to read those and stapled it to their Speak Well booklet. 

4) I have started checking the boys' compo files and I realised that some of them did not take out the term 1 and 2 papers and keep them at home. Please remind them to do so once I have returned the files to them. Thank you. 

5) Compo AMODES - I have not started marking as the standardisation marking has not been carried out. I will update and provide feedback regarding the boys' compos once I have started marking.

Gentle reminder that the Compo AMODES will be tomorrow, 20 August right after recess. Please remind the boys not to play and tire themselves during recess so that they can focus easily during the test. They are highly encouraged to read up model compositions written in first person and study especially the compo file and writing matters. They are highly encouraged to use good phrases to beef up their composition and firm up their introduction and conclusion. 

The boys are to return the Compo files tomorrow, 20/08/14 with these items in it:
1) Term 1 and Term 2 content pages.
2) WP7 - Original draft, corrections, plan and good phrases
3) WP8 - Original draft, corrections, plan and good phrases
4) WP9 - Original draft, corrections, plan and good phrases
5) Wei Xuan's composition correction 

I have returned the Learning Sheet 12 and I-comprehend to the boys yesterday. They are to keep them in their bags always. The classroom was used as an examination venue for the P6s since last week, hence, I could not keep anything in class. Thank you for your kind understanding. 

Homework for today is just the Learning Sheet 12 booklet pages 4, 7 and 8. They are to hand it up on Thursday. They are encouraged to complete the homework after their AMODES.

1. Sign Spelling book and complete the corrections by 18/08.

2. Do Speak Well booklet pages 22 to 24 by Monday 18/08.

3. Compo AMODES next Wednesday, 20 August. For AMODES, the boys are encouraged to prepare by going through their previous writing practices for this term and writing matters. They can also prepare for future writing practices found in their writing matters which were returned to them previously as a way to revise. They can also read up on model compositions for good phrases, introductions and conclusions and use them during the practice and also during the test. 

One last thing, I will be collecting their compo files for checking after the Amodes. I have told the boys that the best files will be rewarded. I hope this helps to motivate them to keep their files in order and ensure that everything is kept neatly for future references.

11 August (part 2)

ENGLISH

Writing practice 9 was about 'the day you lost something'. Most of the boys did well for this composition. I was slightly lenient in my marking. I do not want them to feel demoralised and they cannot get good marks. Yet, I do not want them to be complacent and think that their composition is the best. I told them that this Writing Practice served as a practise for them before the real Amodes in week 8 or week 9. 

I want to especially applaud Jozef and Adam for writing good compositions. I will be sharing their compositions with the class. I am seeing improvements in some of the boys. They are now trying their best to express themselves more in their writing. I really hope that they keep this up. 

Dear parents, the writing amodes format will be similar to the writing practices that we have been doing so far. I highly encouraged the boys to firm up their style of writing the introduction and conclusion. They were also told to beef up their story with good vocabulary words. I have told the boys to write a minimum of at least one and a half pages in order to 'play safe' when writing their compositions. I do not want them to count word by word. 

For the weaker boys, I have been letting them look and copy model compositions. The better boys only needed to take down the good phrases from the model compositions.

I really hope that the boys apply what they have learnt and did so far, during the amodes and SA2. 

Thank you parents for guiding your sons. Let us keep pushing them to do their best. :)

Please be reminded that the boys will have Spelling tomorrow (12/08). :)

For the previous AMODES, the level teachers have decided that the boys will not be given zero if they had punctuation errors but they will only be deducted by 1/2 mark.

1) File in Collective nouns into EL file. I've checked and filled in the blanks for those who were not sure of the answers. I've stamped 'Checked by Mdm Syaz' at the top corner of the first page. All the answers can be found on the first two pages of the worksheet.

2) File WP8 into Compo file. Some boys have forgotten to staple the good phrases onto their WP8, please remind them to do so.

I have returned those who have handed in to me. Those who have just submitted today, I will return them tomorrow and they are to file it into their file. 

For the AMODES result, I've told them the highest mark which is 29.5 out of 30 and revealed to them the person who scored the highest. I will not reveal the others until further instructions from the other EL level teachers.

The boys were given Pupil's WB homework, pages 14 to 17 last Friday. Some boys have handed in their WBs.

I am sorry as I was not able to update the blog last week as I had P6 Oral till evening and I had to rush off for some personal matters. I was also not able to post over the weekend as this account is managed by Mdm Mayah and is tagged to her MOE account. Hence, I am only able to post using the school's laptop.  

I collected the WP8 Corrections from the boys last Friday and there were 10 boys who did not submit the corrections. I am not sure why they were not able to hand in their work. I have decided not to allow them more than one day to complete their homework. Starting from today, for all the homework given, they are to submit it immediately the next day. 

For the ten boys who did not hand in, I will give them chance if they hand it in today. Otherwise, I will have to keep them during recess to complete their work. 

Dear parents, please help to ensure that the boys hand in their work on time. Thank you. :)

I showed the boys this picture below last Friday and pointed out some of the more commonly misspelt words (especially no. 1, 3, 5 and 10).
